StoryCorps Visits Glens Falls

(This event is made possible by the generous support of

North Country Public Radio.)

StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit project whose mission is to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening.

By recording the stories of our lives with the people we care about, we experience our history, hopes, and humanity. Since 2003, tens of thousands of everyday people have interviewed family and friends through StoryCorps. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to take home and share, and is archived for generations to come at the Library of Congress. Millions listen to our award-winning broadcasts on public radio and the Internet. StoryCorps is the largest oral history project of its kind, creating a growing portrait of who we really are as Americans.

Visit the StoryCorp Website

Listening is an act of love.

The heart of StoryCorps is the conversation between two people who are important to each other: a son asking his mother about her childhood, an immigrant telling his friend about coming to America, or a couple reminiscing on their 50th wedding anniversary. By helping people to connect, and to talk about the questions that matter, the StoryCorps experience is powerful and sometimes even life-changing.

Our goal is to make that experience accessible to all, and find new ways to inspire people to record and preserve the stories of someone important to them. Everybody’s story matters and every life counts.

Just as powerful is the experience of listening. Whenever people listen to these stories, they hear the courage, the humor, the trials and triumphs of an incredible range of voices.

“By listening closely to one another, we can help illuminate the true character of this nation—reminding us all just how precious each day can be and how truly great it is to be alive.”

-Dave Isay, Founder, StoryCorps

bring you

"100 Years of Travel Through Time"

   Crandall Park

We will be displaying a history of auto dealerships and service stations that were located in and around the city of Glens Falls during the past 100 years. These displays will include photos and history of who owned them, what was sold , how many years in business. All these businesses were owned locally. We also will be having approximately 300 antique and classic cars on display on site for both days. We are asking the car owners to dress in the era of their autos to reflect the entire 100 years. There also will be a city wide cruise by these cars on Friday afternoon at 4:00pm. There will be the Glens Falls Symphony concert at the park in the evening followed by fireworks. We also have 6 groups of live music including Bobby Dick and the Sundowners, The Reminisants, Tri-County Banjo Band, Hearts in Harmony, The Bel Aires and ELVIS tribute artists Joe Ramsey and Donnie Romines. There will be food vendors for the event. This celebration is free to all and will definitely be a lot of fun. It will bring memories back to many of us that have lived here all our lives.
